Nashville, TN, USA
I took pictures in an huge empty deserted mall this morning. Surreal. The sheer dimensions of this place blew my mind. I thought a lot afterwards about how American culture is different to what I know from Europe.
One thing that I've noticed from the first time being here and that strikes me even more as time goes on is how people seem to relate differently. In Europe things are a little more community driven and a little more social. The lines between social classes are also much more blurred. People here, even though I feel they are usually much more friendly with each other than Europeans, also seem to be more competitive with each other. Being successful usually means making a lot of money and spending a lot of that money on status which seems to introduce a lot of stress.
It's very interesting that a society that largely believes in creation can be so Darwinistic.
