I think every creative person goes through different stages. Picking up a camera is like choosing a certain instrument. First you start practicing the technicality of it, you learn how to expose and how to frame, the equivalent of practicing scales.

Then you apply what you've learned by trying material that inspires you, created by other artists. You imitate work that resonates with you. After a while you start to explore. You follow your own intuition and start to create instead of re-creating. At some point you arrive at a place where creative expression isn't a conscious process anymore, it just flows. Inspiration comes to you through thoughts and feelings, not certain images or music that have already been brought to existence.

This means you have to embrace all the good and bad things in your life because they made you who you are. Seeing how you see and feeling how you feel about the world wouldn't be possible otherwise.
