Goodbye Tennessee. As much as I enjoy spending time in the south, I don't like being in the midwest and the midsouth that much. It doesn't quite match culturally I guess.
We hit the road again today and a gentleman with an NRA cap made a remark about the New York plates on our rental car when we stopped for lunch. He seemed even more displeased when I told him that we live in Maine and not in New York. He told me that Virginia is a much better place to live. He also said that they have much more liberal laws and that the government isn't snooping around in anyone's private business there. He obviously had never heard about Edward Snowden.
This is another funny observation about the United States, a lot of people seem to think that their government is after them on some level. I can relate to the general concern about privacy, but it's often so extreme that it almost comes across paranoid.
It looks like we finally found a car, hopefully. We'll have a look tomorrow morning. I can't wait to get rid of the Suburban and drive something a little bit smaller again.
I thought a lot about getting older lately. Maybe I can get my thoughts together enough to write it down.
