I thought a lot today about a blog post I wrote a while back about the absence of fear. The quintessence of it was that you need to shoot for yourself and not for other people in order not to stagnate creatively, no matter what you are doing photographically.
I often have the feeling right now that I had when I started shooting B&W, a lot of the people that followed my work at the time didn't like what I was doing and expected a certain type of feeling in my pictures. Expectations from the outside weren't met, which can be very unhelpful if you let that in too deep. Sometimes it takes time for people to adjust and try to understand the different direction - or maybe not and they dismiss it altogether, which is ok too.
I'm sure this is going to be the same about my pictures from NYC. It feels really good and really bad at the same time. But it's so important to keep going. No matter the price and no matter if a certain direction turns out to be a failure.
