Rebecca and I talked a lot about our beginnings in photography today. The time when everything you do feels new and exciting and everything feels like it came out great. Over time you learn that what you thought was great wasn't really that good and you start to develop and to shape out what it is that really moves you about a good picture and what you would like to see in your own work.
The 365 brings a lightheartedness back to my work that I really enjoy. I'm well aware that I can't make something good every day so I usually don't even try. I explore new things or just document instead. That subconsciously reintroduced a level of playfulness that I love and that I didn't feel for a long time.
I think a lot of that has to do with innocence. Innocence is something that you cannot hold on to - no matter how hard you try. It's like being a child, growing up and maturing is part of life. You cannot stop the process or delay it. It's the child in me that creates an image and the adult that evaluates it afterwards. And I told the adult to just be quiet for a while and let the child explore without being so concerned about the outcome.
