We brought our car in for a service today. There's a repair shop in Wiscasset that specializes in European brands. They've checked the entire car and luckily didn't find anything wrong besides what we had already discovered ourselves. I'm happy about that. We left the car at the shop to be serviced and got a courtesy loaner until they're done.
I'm very impressed by the quality and the work ethic in this country, only topped by the unparalleled attitude in regards to customer service. In Germany many people put up their noses in regards to American quality standards, especially in regards to cars and houses (maybe we still like to build tanks and bunkers). I don't think that's at all justified. Germans build things to last - at least a lifetime. Here it's good enough if it lasts for a reasonable amount of years and then you replace the item. But everything is a lot more affordable.
I can really relate to both philosophies. But I think Europeans can definitely learn something about service from Americans. And their relaxed friendliness while still being very professional, one of the things I like most about the culture here.
