We got most of our Christmas food shopping done today and discovered a little German Delikatessen store along the way. Rebecca is making duck with dumplings and red cabbage this year - my favorite German Christmas dinner ever. The little store had so many other yummy things I remember from growing up that I always wanted to show Rebecca and never got to - cinnamon stars, marzipan, chocolate and many other things.
We had rye bread and salami for dinner - my school lunch for about 13 years. It's so funny to think that I had to move to the US before I could show all of this to her instead of finding it locally somewhere in Europe. The US is such a melting pot of different cultures and so many aspects of each culture are preserved and carried on through generations. I love that.
